Tour Itinerary: Best 8-Day Tour From Casablanca to Merzouga Sahara
Day 1: Casablanca and drive to Fes
We will pick you up at the airport and drive directly to Fes enjoying the view of the fertile lands of Rabat and Meknes city on the way, till you arrive at your riad in Fes where you will spend the night and have a traditional dinner.
Day 2: Fes Guided tour
After breakfast in your riad, you will start exploring the oldest city in Morocco, walking in its alleys and small streets. Our visit starts by visiting the Royal Palace gate, the Jewish quarter, the first Mellah ever built in Morocco, built during the 14th century.
We will ensure that you visit all sites with cultural and historical interest including the famous Al Qaraouine University, the oldest one in the world, the Tanneries, and the Moulay Idriss mausoleum. After lunch, you will visit the tiles cooperative and then experience a wonderful panoramic view over the whole Medina of Fes. Overnight at the hotel/riad.
Day 3 : Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Ziz Valley – Merzouga
After breakfast, you will leave Fes travelling towards Merzouga via Midlet and the Ziz Valley. Today you will travel via Ifrane city, a beautiful mountain village, named the Switzerland of Morocco. Here you will also stop at the cedar forest in the middle Atlas Mountains.
During this journey, you’ll experience glimpses of the Middle Atlas and Higher Atlas mountains and stop at Azrou, a Berber village in the middle of the famous cedar forest the largest one in Morocco – where you will have the opportunity to see the Barbary apes.
After that, your journey continues to Midelt along the magnificent hills and mountains of the Atlas. After lunch in Midelt, you’ll be travelling through the fascinating Tizi Ntalghamt pass and the spectacular Ziz Gorge, taking in views of the High Atlas plateau, seeing how the scenery changes to reveal hints of the desert as you approach the province of the south-east Errachidia city.
Afterwards, you’ll travel along the fantastic Ziz Valley, stopping for panoramic views along the way to Erfoud and Rissani. Arriving in Merzouga in the afternoon you’ll be welcomed with a glass of mint tea before checking into your hotel/riad.
Day 4: Merzouga – Sahara Desert – Camel trek
After breakfast in your riad, you can take a little exploration of the local area before the start of your camel ride You will visit the Gnawa people – originally from Mali, Senegal, and Sudan – in their village Khamlia, where you will learn about their music and their lifestyle. later, we will drive to the desert area to meet nomad families to explore their way of life.
Today our lunch will be a traditional Berber meal (Berber pizza). you will have the option also to visit the old city of Rissani – the foundation of the Alaouite dynasty – the current ruling royal family in Morocco. Rissani is surrounded by about 360 ksars (a fortified village with many towers) and has a big souk (an open market), held three times a week.
Once called Sijilmassa, this was the meeting place for the salt caravans, coming from Tombouctou in Mali. Here you’ll walk through the souk, selling spices, vegetables, and clothes.
Drive back to the village of Merzouga. In the afternoon, you will ride your camel, guided by an experienced camel man to explore what is hidden in the middle of the highest dunes in Morocco with the opportunity to watch the sunset… Dinner and overnight at Berber camp in Erg Chebbi dunes – Merzouga.
Day 5: Merzouga Desert – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley
On the morning of the 5th day of our 8-day tour from Casablanca. Your camel guide will wake you up early in the morning to watch what may be the best sunrise of your life. You’ll peacefully camel-trek back to the village of Merzouga.
En route, you couldn’t fail to appreciate the unique beauty of the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes – changing with the light as the day progresses. After breakfast and a hot shower in the riad, you’ll leave for Rissani, Tinghir, and Todra gorges – the highest, narrowest gorges in Morocco.
After lunch in the heart of the gorge, we’ll drive through the Dades Valley, where you’ll see the majestic sand castles and the amazing rock formations known as “monkey toes”. Overnight accommodation will be in a fancy guest house overlooking the Dades Valley with dinner and breakfast.
Day 6: Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
Our 8 Days Tour from Casablanca continues after having your breakfast you will start travelling through the Dades Valley towards Ouarzazate and then to Marrakech. The route through Dades Valley is called the way of the thousand Kasbahs – providing numerous opportunities to take some of your best photographic shots of the trip.
You will stop at Kalaat Mgouna the centre of Roses Valley, where you will have the option to visit the cooperative for the roses, to purchase the rosewater, which will make your linen smell good a long time after your trip is over.
Continue to Marrakech via the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. Built by Et Hami El Glaoui, one of the last Berber chieftains during the 19th century, the Kasbah is a house of many Glaoui people.
Your journey will continue through the majestic Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2260 m) over the High Atlas Mountains, where you will have the opportunity to explore the process of producing the argan oil – existing only in Morocco – by Berber women in their cooperative, before arriving at your overnight accommodation in Marrakech.
Day 7: Marrakech Guided Tour
After breakfast in the riad, you can start exploring Marrakech “the red city of Morocco“. We will ensure that you see the most important sites of historical and cultural interest, including the Majorelle Gardens, the Koutoubia Tower, the Saadian tombs, and the Bahia Palace.
After lunch at a restaurant near the square, you will walk through the souks and view hundreds of handicrafts. In the afternoon, you will have some free time to wander by yourself in the other parts of the city.
Day 8: Transfer to the Airport
This is the last day of Morocco in an 8-day adventure where you will be transferred directly to the airport.
